Once upon a time......

.....no, this is not a fairy tale
its a true story about a German couple who lived in a tree for 5 years
from 1855-1860. This tree is on the outskirts of the Springton in South Australia approximately 40km from where we live.
This tree is now a tourist attraction, many people from all around the world stop to read about this remarkable family. (The person reading the history here is my husband )
The next picture is about the family and descendants. You will need to click on the pictures to be able to read the words.
One of the more famous decendants is Simon Goodwin, a member of the Adelaide Crows Football team. There is a picture of him included on one of the notice boards.
And finally, a brief biography about the family. Father, Mother and SIXTEEN children !!
An amazing story !!!!

Hi Kelly, its worth a trip to see this tree. One side still bears the blackened walls where they used to cook their meals. The only inhabitants now are a few sparrows nesting in the hollows.

Anonymous, Hi. Thank you for your comment but why be anonymous, be brave and don't hide behind anonymity ? Do you have a blog ? Maybe I could learn something from reading yours.

Hello Olive
Nice to see you recently, as you will have read I haven't been visiting recently but so hope all is fixed proper now.
Do you know the whole time we lived in Adelaide during the 90s I never saw this little gem advertised at all.
See you are having more hot days - according to our weather man you have another 40c lined up for today (Thursday)
Take care and keep cool
Cathy

Hi Cathy, Re the weather, all I can say is thank goodness for air-conditioners !! Not very "green", I know but when one is nearing 75 (shhhh!) what else can one do?
Glad to hear your computer is all OK again. Mine is playing up like a naughty child....Mozilla keeps crashing right when I'm in the middle of doing something...most annoying !
I have never seen the Herbig tree advertised either. More than likely SA Tourism has some info on it. Well worth the trip to see it on the fringe of the Barossa Valley. They made them tough in those days, can you imagine any one these days residing in a tree?
