Macchiato

We've had a visit from my son and daughter-in-law, (he is an habitual coffee quaffer from Canberra) they brought with them their old coffee machine which they promised to me when they purchased their new one. When I visited them in the A.C.T. I saw him drinking these little coffees, very strong, 3 definite layers. We had coffee in an Adelaide Cafe' yesterday which was NOT at all like this even though it was the one he ordered.
So, I decided to show him that I could make a better one. This is it. What do you think? I'm rather proud of my first attempt. He enjoyed it. (maybe too polite to tell me otherwise?)
Sadly they are now on their way home again and we probably won't see them for quite a few months. It was disappointing for them to have traveled 1,200 kms to see their football team get soundly thrashed.

I've been a little lazy with blogger for a while, I've made a mental note to myself to make sure I take the camera with me when I leave the house. I pass lots of interesting places which when I see them think, "that would make an interesting blog", but, no camera in the car ! Ughhh.

I could do with one of those right now, I am feeling decidedly sleepy, it would perk me up no end.
I'm the same with taking pictures just lately, I see something and think that would make a good blog picture but no camera so no picture. Get out into your garden and take some pictures using the macro function, get in really close, things look quite different.

oh, that looks lovely. These days I have to be very careful with any coffee - need to be near "facilities", if you get my drift.

I will drool from afar and dream of being able to visit your home and enjoy this coffee treat (I'm sure you'd understand a quick departure from the room by Mickle, LOL).

Must take my camera with me, as well, so I can share more.

Huggles from me and normal sleep breathing from him (he must be saving the snores for when I'm close to sleep), Michelle xxx and Zebbycat ..... still very quiet so I'll tiptoe away ..........

I am not a coffee drinker, more of a tea addict, but this drink looks yummy....

I wanted to thank you for your kind comments in my time of need, I do really appreciate them xxx

So, what's in the coffee? I've been trying out new coffees lately, stronger stuff than my wife likes. Did you like the coffee you prepared for your son? I've never drank anything in Starbucks I cared for, nor any of the Italian coffees or contraptions they serve and call coffee. I like a bold cup of good tasting coffee. I'm still shopping, looking for that perfect cup, I guess.Enjoyed the read.

Hello again Bill, This is a 50ml glass, double shot of coffee (STRONG), just fill the glass with the coffee straight from the machine leaving enough room for a little froth from the steamed milk and about half a teaspoon of milk. It does the layered effect all by itself. Macchiato means "marked", sort of, stained by the milk, if you get my drift.

Okay, I've got you. Going to try some of that in the morning. Thanks. I'll report back if I don't forget or get lost. bill.

I started to say Good morning, Olive, but realized it's probably ten or eleven p,m, in SA. I realize, too, my coffee drinking is of no interest to anyone but I did try your recipe, but not the next morning.

I did get up the following morning, put the coffee on, turned on the burner to heat the milk and the milk was blink y, bad. So I poured some half and half in the coffee. It was on the verge of going bad. I did try it later. Mine didn't turn out like yours did. I didn't get the separation you did. Mine was more or less the same color throughout. Tasted good but did seem a lot of trouble for one cup of coffee. I'm going to try it again. Maybe this weekend. Anyway, thanks.

OK Bill, just lay the foam on with a spoon and pour (gently) about a teaspoon of milk in. Don't overheat the milk. My son, who thinks he is the greatest Barista in the world says that milk should never be heated more than 60 degrees, and that is why he bought me a milk thernometer !!
Seriously though, he does make a much better coffee than any I have ever tried from a commercial outlet.
