What does one do.......

.....when the temperature is nudging 39c on a lovely spring day ? Hop into the car and take some photos of old buildings in and around near where we live. These buildings always get me pondering...who built them, who lived there, how many children did they have, what did they do to amuse them selves etc. The first two houses are in Lobethal, the first one uninhabited, notice the high pitched roof and if you click on the picture you'll notice there is a small door into the roof area. Lobethal is a town in the Adelaide Hills settled by Germans in the 1800's, hence the german style to these old homes. This second one has been well maintained over the years and it is in the Main street. Such a lovely cottage.
Next I show a tobacco oast, which hasn't been used for the purpose of drying tobacco for many, many years, not a bad thing, to my way of thinking, but its such a pity that most of these buildings will be either demolished or fall down from being neglected. I know of a shed that has been slowly falling down for over 20 years but it was too far to travel in the heat to get a shot at that one. Next time! (if a big puff of wind hasn't blown it down completely)
Lastly this quaint cottage, nearer home, sits in a vineyard. I wonder how long it will be before it is knocked down so that the small piece of land it sits on can be used for planting more grapes.

What a nasty heat wave - I just saw the extended forecast on The Gnomes blog. AT 1.00pm here today is was a pleasant 18C, sunny with a moderate breeze. Then the Southerly arrived! At 3.30 it is now 9C, overcast and very windy. There has been hail in some parts of Wellington.

Wouldn't we both be happy if we could average out oue temps!

Aimee, These old buildings get my imagination moving (not much else does any more) LOL

Yikes is right !!!

Michelle, yep, the heat is too much, too soon. What a pity the breeze doesn't blow in the opposite direction, we might just get some cool from your side of the "ditch"
Keep warm !!

Hello Olive
How are you coping with the very extended heatwave. I realise the Hills are slightly cooler than the Plains but even so I reckon all of SA not just Adelaide and surroounds is scorching at the moment.
See you have a very very nasty day coming up tomorrow - any fires near you?
Tke care and keep cool
Cathy

Hi Cathy, thanks for calling in. No fires near us (yet) Ssssh. Dare not say that too loud if you know what I mean.
What is wrong with this weather ? Forecast 45C today and its not even summer yet.
I have packed a few precious items along with some essentials and if "IT" looks like coming I shall hi-tail it out of here, lickety split.
Staying inside with my air-con running today. I KNOW its not the green thing to do, but.............
Take care Cathy, try to keep cool.

It is really nice to know about such houses and cottages in some other part of the world. Blogging lets us know about places where we may never go in life :). Nice pictures there. Some of the houses resemble the ones we have in India.
